Why "A Kiwi Experience"? Ann's forefathers were amongst the first settlers to come to Nelson in 1842 when it was being founded by Captain Arthur Wakefield of the New Zealand Company.
The men came out first on the sailing ship "The Whitby" to build homes and establish food crops for their families. The women and children followed some six months later on the sailing ship "The Lloyds".
They had a very arduous journey and many of the children died. Development had not taken place as expected and this forced the new settlers to rely on each other.
This resulted in an attitude to life and each other which has become uniquely Kiwi – we help each other in times of need - assist total strangers, and are an open and friendly people.
Kiwi’s would not consider visiting a friend without "taking a plate" of something to share or drink, usually both.
"So relaxing, comfortable, wish we were here longer. Perfect. Thank you." Sue and Don Cawthra, Yorkshire, England
"Great time, warm welcome and lots of home comforts! NZ Rules" Susie and Nig Green, Kirbymoorside, Yorkshire, England
